20 years of Make-A-Wish in Ticino

Our foundation was set up 20 years ago to serve all children in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. The canton of Ticino is therefore very important to us, as we are committed to helping all the families in Ticino who are faced with the illness of a child. We’ve been active in this canton almost from the start, and have a fantastic team on the ground, made up entirely of volunteers. They do an incredible job with the families and fulfil some wonderful wishes. However, the Foundation is not yet widely known in this canton, and it was important for us to be able to celebrate our anniversary there too, to organise a big event that would raise our profile, with the aim of eventually informing all our beneficiaries, but also of finding new supporters to help us in our wonderful mission, whether this support is financial, in the form of benefits in kind or volunteering. On 24 February 2024, a wonderful evening was held in Lugano at the Hotel Splendide Royal, with almost 180 people in attendance. Many products and services were offered to us on this occasion and we are very grateful. The aim of the evening was to introduce Make-A-Wish, which led to a few speeches explaining who we are and what we do. Other speakers included doctors, who spoke of the importance and impact of a wish and the fact that a wish is part of a child’s therapy, and the mother of a Make-A-Wish child, who later became a volunteer for the foundation. The programme of events included live music, a magician, a tombola and an auction. We felt a real interest in our mission and a great sense of solidarity. We are extremely grateful to everyone who expressed their full support for Make-A-Wish.
