A little girl of 4, a big dream: Zoja's New York wish
At just 4 years old, Zoja already has remarkable strength and a worldly outlook.
Curious, observant, and full of life, she has always dreamed of discovering new horizons. Among all the places that fuel her imagination, one destination stands out: New York City.
Zoja was born with bladder exstrophy, a congenital condition that led to her undergoing surgery shortly after birth and spending long periods in the hospital.
Even today, medical checkups are part of her daily routine. Hospitals remain a source of fear – but despite this, Zoja demonstrates impressive courage and determination.
Her father often reminds her: she is a big, strong little girl.
From a very young age, Zoja was fascinated by New York. Its skyscrapers, its energy, its lights… this city that never sleeps represented a world to explore for her.
His wish was simple, but profoundly meaningful: to discover this mythical city and share precious moments with his family, far from the daily medical routine.
The beginning of this journey was marked by a particularly touching moment.
At the airport, Zoja was surprised to celebrate her birthday with a chocolate cake – her favorite – specially prepared for her by a volunteer.
A moment filled with emotion, joy and tenderness, which set the tone for the whole adventure.
From the moment she arrived in New York, Zoja was amazed by everything around her.
Every street, every building, every moment was a discovery. She took the time to observe, to absorb, to fully experience each moment.
Among the most memorable moments of her stay, the visit to the Central Park Zoo will remain unforgettable, especially when she was able to feed and get close to sea lions.
The family also discovered iconic landmarks such as the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, the Children's Museum of Manhattan, and several immersive experiences in the heart of the city.
For Zoja and her family, this wish represented much more than just a trip.
It was a moment of freedom. A time to reconnect. An opportunity to create precious memories.
Her parents describe this experience with great emotion:
"Pure joy... everything was fascinating and exciting for her."
"Seeing her so happy, so free, meant everything to us."
"These are memories we will cherish forever as a family."
This trip allowed Zoja to escape the medical setting and discover the world with wonder.
She leaves with much more than memories: strengthened confidence, profound joy, and the conviction that her dreams can come true.
As she prepares to start kindergarten in 2026, Zoja takes this unique experience with her, which will continue to accompany her in the years to come.
We extend our sincere thanks to the community A Small World, which made this wish possible thanks to its fundraising gala in December 2025.
Thanks to their support, Zoja's dream was able to become a reality.
