To mark the 50th anniversary of the SPOG (Swiss Paediatric Oncology Group), Make-A-Wish Switzerland was delighted to attend this event in Bellinzona, which brought together medical professionals, stakeholders in pediatric oncology, and members of the Ticino public. For 50 years, the SPOG, the Swiss Paediatric Oncology Group, has been working to improve the treatment and care of children and adolescents with cancer in Switzerland.
This anniversary was therefore a great opportunity to highlight the many people who dedicate themselves every day to young patients and their families, but also to promote meetings and exchanges between the different actors who support them.
The event took place at the EOC (Ente Ospedaliero Cantonale) in Bellinzona. The EOC is the public hospital network of the canton of Ticino and brings together several hospitals, institutes and healthcare facilities in the region.
On this occasion, Make-A-Wish Switzerland was present with a stand to present its mission, to exchange with health professionals and the public and to raise awareness of the impact that granting a wish can have on the journey of a child living with a serious illness.
Our mission goes far beyond the moment the wish comes true. Throughout their Wish Journey, the child can envision a positive experience that is uniquely theirs, rediscover enthusiasm, and share precious moments with loved ones.
This presence in Bellinzona also allowed Make-A-Wish Switzerland to strengthen its visibility in Ticino and to create new opportunities for exchange around our mission.
Medical and hospital teams play a vital role in Make-A-Wish's mission. Their daily interactions with children and their families allow them to raise awareness of our foundation among families who could benefit from the experience of having a wish granted. Building and maintaining relationships with healthcare professionals is therefore essential for us to reach more children living with serious illnesses throughout Switzerland.
This day was a great opportunity to strengthen our ties with the medical community in Ticino, but also to highlight the importance of collaboration between the various stakeholders involved with the child and their family.
By working together, we can help support children beyond the treatment process, offering them moments of joy, hope and strength during a particularly difficult period in their lives.
We extend our deepest gratitude to Prisca and Vanessa, our volunteers on site, for their commitment, enthusiasm, and for representing Make-A-Wish Switzerland throughout this event. The work of our volunteers is essential to our mission. Their presence on the ground allows us to build relationships, raise awareness of our work, and, most importantly, continue to support even more children and families across Switzerland.
Thanks also to SPOG, EOC and all the people met in Bellinzona for their welcome and for these precious moments of exchange.
Together, let us continue to spread awareness of the power of a wish and to offer children living with a serious illness the opportunity to dream, to imagine the future and to experience unforgettable moments with their loved ones.
